Good Timing!

August 22nd, 2008

So we were robbed in November and promptly screwed by the insurance agency.  That disillusioned me on the idea that a claim on our Homeowner’s Policy would be very much.  Boy, was I wrong!   They’ve already sent me checks for the cost of replacing the door and locks.  My claims agent called me today with the amount for our property.  Whoa….  We really should have done this in November.  They waived our deductible, since most of the items stolen was my jewelry – and only $500 of it is covered on our policy.

So we’re getting a decent chunk of change now, part of which we’ll use on our car insurance and the other part will go into Jonathan’s savings account.  He has the highest interest rate (go credit unions!) and we’ll use the money to supplement our income now that he’s quitting.  Then, later in the year, we’ll get another check for my grandmother’s ring, which we’ll also probably use to live off of.

Because, in case I haven’t mentioned it, my husband quit his job.  I’m supportive, but that means just my income now.  Luckily, we can add him to my insurance without paying a cent out of pocket.  It’s a company benefit.  Woo!  Medical, dental, and vision coverage.

But really, this whole insurance thing comes at a time when we really need the money.
